Sloths & Mindfulness

Updated: Jan 18, 2019

For Christmas this year I was given a book called, “A Sloth’s Guide to Mindfulness” by Ton Mak.

You’ve probably heard of mindfulness as it has become a bit of a buzzword, but you are probably wondering what a sloth has to do with it.

Mindfulness is the process of focusing and becoming aware of the present. Part of this process is to observe what is happening in the present moment without judgement. By doing so, we are better able to understand our emotions.

Mindfulness exercises are a great way to learn to handle uncomfortable emotions in a healthy way. Therapists who use mindfulness will teach clients these exercises and encourage them to practice outside of sessions.

Practice is the key to getting the full benefits of mindfulness. If you are looking to improve your mood and sleep, studies show that just 10 minutes of mindfulness practice a day can help.

And that is how mindfulness is like the sloth: slow, steady work will eventually get you to your goal.
